Cancun Travel Guide
Little more than twenty years ago, Cancun was just a town with a Mayan name, where the deserted sun drenched this piece of land just northeast of the Yucatan peninsula. Now it's a vacation spot where you can hit the clubs, travel in catamaran or sit on the beach and contemplate the surf and the sunset while you have a nice cold drink. Walking through white, powdery sand while being cooled by the ocean breeze and feeling the lukewarm turquoise waters of the Caribbean lap your ankles, Cancun is a place for everyone, from the backpackers to the jet set.
The two big points of interest are the Hotel Zone on Kukulcan Boulevard or the Downtown area. There are many things to do and see in either place.
So if you are looking for the party scene, dance music, djs and a wild time, going up Kukulcan is a surefire way to find a good party. On the inland side of Cancun is Laguna Nichupte, a vast lagoon that serves as home to numerous marinas, water front restaurants, shopping malls, a couple of golf courses, a few islands and inlets and some fantastic sunsets. If you're looking for something a little more price competitive, take a turn around the downtown area. Around Mercado 28 or Parque Las Palapas, there are restaurants and clubs that are great for eats and dancing. Try a marquesita, crepe cone-type dessert with cheese, sold in the Palapas. In either zone, there are shopping malls and movie theaters so you won't have to worry about being bored.

If there are other things you'd rather be doing, there are a bunch of options. Kite surfing, helicopter rides, biking, kayaking, golf and sports fishing among other things, are just some of the things you can choose from. There are excursions to nearby towns, ecological reserves and archeological ruins. Doing all this on a nice canvas of turquoise blues and misty greens can be appealing to most anyone.
